What we supply
For a manufacturer, the difficulty is that bone and dental products are judged over months, not days. Handling has to survive the operating room, resorption has to match new bone formation, and the regulatory file has to hold up under Class III scrutiny in more than one territory. All of that rests on a material whose behaviour is known before it enters the process.
Alpstein supplies bovine type I collagen for orthopedic and dental regeneration in the forms these products are built from. Fibrous atelocollagen paste for mouldable putties and composite graft blends. Sheet for membranes, barriers and layered constructs. Powder for mixing with hydroxyapatite, beta tricalcium phosphate, bioactive glass or autograft. Soluble atelocollagen solution for binders, coatings and injectable carriers. Sterile and non-sterile supply, so the material can enter before or after your sterilisation step.
The material ends up in artificial bone graft substitutes for fracture repair, spinal fusion, bone tumour resection, craniofacial reconstruction and alveolar grafting. It goes into collagen plugs that fill and seal an extraction socket, preserve the site for later implant placement, and degrade over two to four weeks. It goes into barrier membranes for guided bone and guided tissue regeneration, coatings that make a metal implant surface something cells will settle on, and putties that a surgeon can shape against a defect wall and expect to stay put.
Forms and optionsWhat Alpstein brings to the build
Osteoconduction depends on architecture, and architecture depends on the collagen arriving with a known fragment length. Alpstein defines fragment length across multiple centrifuge stations inside a closed process, which is the difference between a pore structure you designed and one you discovered afterwards.
Purity carries more weight here than in almost any other application, because the implant stays in place while bone remodels around it. Total protein above 98 percent, non-collagen protein below 1 percent and endotoxin below 0.5 EU per mL mean fewer confounders in your animal work and a cleaner story in the file.
Mechanical characterisation is done independently at Cambridge and Oxford, with purity and identity at Intertek. A graft claim rests better on a university test report than on a supplier data sheet.
Sourcing sits only in WOAH negligible risk countries, with ISO 13485:2016 and ISO 22442 parts 1, 2 and 3 behind it, cold chain maintained in transit and traceability back to the herd. For a long implantation product this is the section of your submission a reviewer reads twice, so it is written to be read twice.
Where a composite needs developing rather than supplying, Alpstein’s team works on the collagen side of the formulation with you. Ratio to ceramic, porosity, wet handling, set time, and the resorption profile that matches the indication.
